Explosions and gunfire hit north Nigeria city Suspected Boko Haram attack in northern city of Damaturu comes hours after scores were killed in northeast Borno state.
A local source confirmed to Al Jazeera that gunmen believed to be Boko Haram fighters attacked the Yobe state University in Damaturu and other targets Damaturu early on Monday morning.
The fighters came from the bush and opened fire, according the witnesses.
The military has engaged them and gunshots were being heard by 08:00 GMT around Damaturu, though the gunfire later moved away from the university and into the bush as Nigerian troops chased the fighters.
Some students and university staff fled to the bush and were holed up there. Residents of the city were largely remaining indoors as the gunfire continued while the military deployed around the area.
It was not immediately clear if there were casualties.
"We have left our homes. We are now in the bush. We don't know what's going to happen," local man Umar Sada, who said a police barracks had been destroyed, told the AFP news agency.
In a separate development, at least five people were killed in two explosions at a marketplace in Maidugari, our correspondent Rawya Rageh, reporting from Abuja, said.
Monday's attacks come a day after scores of people were reportedly killed after suspected Boko Haram fighters, who arrived on motorcycles throwing bombs, raided Shani town in Nigeria's northeast Borno state.
Shani is located in Nigeria's Borno state, the heartland of Boko Haram's five-year insurgency, which has displaced more than one million people.
The raid also comes after a suicide bomb and gun attack on the central mosque in the northern city of Kano on Friday which bore all the hallmarks of Boko Haram and left at least 120 people dead.
The armed group is fighting to revive an Islamic caliphate in Nigeria's north. It is suspected to be behind Friday's attack on the central mosque in the second city of Kano, where at least 100 people died.

Wizkid Shows The Arrogance Of Celebrity And Gets Arrested In Kenya
Celebrities and drugs go together like banku and tilapia. For the sake of this article, we're not going to get into a debate about the severity of drug use or if smoking marijuana should even be considered drug use.
In most places in the world, including Ghana, it is illegal to smoke pot. Yet many celebrities, musicians especially, can't seem to stay away from it.
Remember when Chris Brown came to Ghana last year (2013) and smoked weed on stage? Many Ghanaian fans, including myself, were outraged.
It's one thing smoking when you're in your house and another smoking in public spaces, especially where smoking is forbidden. But I guess sometimes these celebrities think they are so big and invincible that they can flout the rules with impunity. Sometimes they do, most of the time in fact, but once in a while the law reminds them that they aren't above it.
Nigeria's Wizkid was in Kenya to shoot a video and to perform some shows. The singer, however, couldn't forgo his smoking habits and things went sour when the “Matter” singer was caught smoking in a hotel where smoking isn't allowed.
When Wizkid was checking out of the Nairobi Crown Plaza hotel, the manager of the hotel asked him if he had smoked in the hotel. Wizkid, maybe thinking that because he was a paying guest or because he was a celebrity that he shouldn't be questioned about his smoking, argued with the manager. The manager called the police.
The police showed up, determined that Wizkid had broken the law, and arrested, handcuffed and sent the singer to the police station. Shame on you, Wizkid! Who said you are above the law?!
Reports said Wizkid paid Sh50,000 to the hotel for the infraction. As for the Kenyan police, it took the intervention of Victoria Kimani, a Kenyan singer and Wizkid's new flame, to have Wizkid released from the police cell. Victoria is said to have been with Wizkid during his stay at the hotel.
So what is it that makes these celebrities think they are above the same rules and laws that the rest of us non-celebrities have to follow? Let's face it, celebrities, musicians, they entertain us, which is a useful thing. Sure, it isn't as useful as say fighting Ebola or helping to feed people, but you'd never know it by the praise they receive from the public and their fans, in particular.
We elevate these people to the status of demigods by constantly showering them with money and praise, and they parade through the world as if they are untouchable. But it's an illusion, the illusion of celebrity.
The reality is that celebrities are just as human as anyone else. They are, technically anyway, subject to the same laws as everyone else, and their bodies and minds react to harmful substances the same way. It takes someone like Whitney Houston dying from drug abuse or Wizkid being taken away in handcuffs to remind them of the reality that hasn't changed outside of their own perception.
Will this be a wakeup call to Wizkid and cause him to change his behavior, especially in public and as he relates to people? We'll see. Hopefully. Will this incident serve as a wakeup call to other celebrities who think they can get away with anything? LOL. Definitely not! But the one thing you have to admit is that it is just as entertaining, if not more so, seeing celebrities led away in handcuffs than it is watching them perform on stage!

Yoruba actress, Bukky Wright has joined the growing list of Nigerian entertainers who intend to contest the 2015 elections.
She is seeking to represent the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency of Ogun State at the House of Representatives.
The actress will be contesting for office on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Other entertainers who are now politicians include Desmond Olusola Elliot, Kate Henshaw, 9ice and Muma Gee amongst others.

Arionla, 22, told Sun that she and Prince Daniel became friends after meeting through an online dating website.
“We became friends online and I gave him my number. He kept calling, requesting to see me in school and I kept giving him one excuse or the other. He actually said that he wanted me to be his friend and I declined that I am a student and should be allowed to face my studies,” Arinola toldSun.
On that fateful day, Arionla said Prince Daniel called to inform her that he was in the school premises. Arionla said she told Prince that she was sick and he volunteered to drive her to the pharmacy to get drugs, a gesture that got her impressed. After buying the drugs, they drove to a fast food joint to grab a meal, but Prince Daniel asked her to join him to a sit out joint where she could relax to eat her meal only to drive her to his house in Mende, Maryland.
According to what Arionla told Sun, the suspect, Prince Daniel Okereke, lured her into his home and subdued her with the aid of his security guard before pouncing on her and raping her severely.
“When we got to his house, I told him that I was not interested in having sex with him, he called two of his security guards to help him to tie me up and seal my mouth. He then brought out his belt and started flogging me,” Arionla narrated to Sun.
After several rape sessions which lasted for more than 30 minutes, Arionla revealed that Prince Daniel ordered her to pick her bags and get out of the house. Angry and bitter about her ordeal, Arionla said she started destroying the properties in his house.
According to the report, angry neighbours of Prince Daniel who were not aware of what led to her destroying properties in the compound including a car, called the police from the Area F, Ikeja who arrested her for assault. With her statement to the police coupled with the bruises on her boy as evidence, a case of attempted rape was established and Prince Daniel was arrested but later released on bail while Arinola was admitted to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
Suspecting that the case might be swept under the carpet due to Prince Daniel's connections- he is also the cousin of former DG of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Ndi Okereke-Onyuike- Arinola and her family reported the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti who rearrested Prince Daniel Okereke.
According to the Sun report, 37-year old Prince Daniel Okereke has admitted to the crime and blamed the devil for the act.
“I am so ashamed of myself. We are family of professionals whom you know very well. I don’t know what got into my head. I am sorry and plead for forgiveness,” Daniel pleaded.
Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Kenneth Nwosu, has confirmed the case and also revealed that the autopsy report from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, established that there was an actual penetration in the course of the scuffle.
Prince Daniel alongside one his security men, Idris Abubakar, who aided him in the rape crime have also been arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court. They were hit with a five count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, rape and threat to life.

African Influence: Rihanna Rocks An African Print During A Visit To The White House
I grew up in an era when African prints were only used for sewing Kaba and Slit (the traditional long skirt and blouse worn by Ghanaian women).
Older women mostly wore Kaba and Slit. The unused pieces were sewn into Asaasa, usually used for covering ourselves when sleeping. Little did we know that this practical use of motley pieces of cloth would one day become as trendy and fashionable as it is today!
The African print is gradually finding its way into the global market, though it has been in use for a long time in Africa. It is now sewn into dresses for all occasions -- parties, weddings, funerals etc. Though still used for Kaba and Slit, African prints have evolved and have been extended to earrings, bags and slippers. The Asaasa is also used now for sewing dresses.
Celebrities worldwide are also gradually embracing the African print look. During Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter world tour in 2013, the singer and her dancers were styled in an African print by Ghanaian designer Isha Ayensu. Alicia Keys, Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles and several Hollywood stars have been spotted wearing African prints. Perhaps the popularity is due to the fact that it is very colourful and looks good on anyone.
Controversial singer Rihanna is the latest American celebrity to be seen in African prints. The star recently visited the White House all dressed up in an African print dress, and she looked stunning. RiRi had a meeting with administration officials to discuss how she could play a role in President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative, a program which seeks to encourage young African-American men to pursue positive life goals and a better education. In Obama’s words, the program is about “helping more of our young people stay on track. Providing the support they need to think more broadly about their future. Building on what works – when it works, in those critical life-changing moments.”
During the singer’s visit to the White House, she slipped into the character of Olivia Pope from the Scandal TV series. She struck a pose behind the podium while answering questions from members of her crew in character, and later continued the act while talking on the phone outside.

During an interview, he confirmed that the two long-time sweethearts are still together and still very much in love.
“Nadia is a solid, down-to earth woman,” Jim said. “I’m a man that translates variables in ways many people find incomprehensible. We have embraced who we are and learnt to create our own world and expectations.
“We have ups and downs like every other couple. We have our strength and weakness as well. At the end of the day, rumours of break ups and make-ups ought to abound. It really doesn’t matter. A relationship is a continuous work. Those that give up were perhaps not committed enough.
“Those that go in for the long haul suck up and square up to the variables life throws at them. The people that judge harshly are obviously the ones that live far from their desired lives. We just live the best way we know how and leave the rest to the author and finisher of all things.”

But that is Jim’s side of the relationship. Now, we’d love to hear from Nadia on her side. During an interview at the premiere of her movie The Diary Of Imogen Brown, she referred to Jim as Mr. Iyke. This got people asking the question why she would refer to her boyfriend as Mr. Iyke? This seems to be nothing more than people reading too much into nothing at all, especially the Entertainment press constantly sniffing around for any sign of something new to report on the lives of celebrities.
Relationships are hard, especially when they involve people who are constantly in the public eye. One rule, however, applies regardless of who is involved: it takes commitment from two people to have a great relationship. Instead of gossiping about if Jim Iyke and Nadia Buari had called off their engagement, perhaps we should have been learning something from the example they set.

Emmanuel Adebayor Neglects His Mom Because He Believes She Is A "Witch"! Share on Facebook Share on Twitter
Relatives of the Tottenham Hotspur forward, who just yesterday lined up for Togo against his adopted country, called into Peace FM this morning with some pretty wild allegations of neglect against the lanky forward.
They included two of his sisters; Margaret and Lucia Adebayor.
According to the two the Togo captain has neglected them, along with their mother, for the past six years. They have kept it quiet but are now fed up to the extent that they feel that they must tell their story to the public.
“For the past six years Adebayor has rejected his mother and his immediate family whilst doing charity outside on the premise that our mother is a witch.
“We have been thinking of his future as a footballer and did not want this issue out in the media but it is becoming too much.” Margaret, the elder sister, told the Accra based radio station.
Margaret went on to say Adebayor ordered his ‘machomen’ to sack his mom and siblings from his house in Togo, claiming his mom is a witch. She said their mom remains distraught over the issue and Adebayor never picks their calls.
“For the past six years he has abandoned his responsibilities towards the family and does charity work instead. But as far as I know charity begins at home.” She added emphatically.
The Togolese forward was contacted for his side of the story, and he confirmed his issues with his family, as well as his firm belief that they were plotting against him with ‘juju’.
“I never sacked my mom from the house, she decided to leave the house… But how am I going to be in touch with my mum if my mum is the one telling everyone that my work will not go forward?”
“They should stop talking talking, they should stop doing juju on me; they should leave me alone”
“Ask my sister Margaret whether I did not build them a house in East Legon, and what happened to it? I bought my younger sister Lucia a car worth $ 35,000, where is it?”
I am a little bit surprised by this news, as his sister raises a valid point about charity beginning at home. I am even more surprised that Adebayor is certainly convinced that they are plotting ‘juju’ against him, and that is the main reason for his aloofness towards them.
You would think he would be more upset about the extravagance he hinted at in relation to the house and car, but as most Africans he has gone straight to allegations of witchcraft. I don’t think in this day and age that is a valid reason for someone to neglect their mom, particular someone with the resources and fame available to Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor.
Happy Birthday Davido
Today, he turns 22! And reminiscing on the past, this is certainly a milestone worth celebrating (if you ask me… given his track record of awards and global recognition attained this year alone). Davido has become an inspiration in ways we may have never acknowledged. Time may not allow us begin to count but we obviously can’t miss the many faces he’s put smiles on and how he’s made us dance, forgetting our worries. For us, that’s good reason enough to celebrate him.
